The Upper Heyford Community Fund was established some years ago as a community – rather than Parish Council – managed account into which monies raised by village activities and events, and donations, could be deposited (prior to distribution). These funds are then available to finance future activities, or community projects. The account is also employed as a community banking facility, holding project grants received and monies raised by particular organisers, and ‘ring-fenced’ for their future activities.
Upper Heyford residents can request funding support or just seed money for any proposed village event that they may wish to organise. The Village Amenities Committee manages the account, approves requests, and distributes any awards. Past support includes financing the wi-fi in the Reading Room, contributing to the cost of the playground, and with start-up costs for the flower show and fireworks. The sums awarded may take the form of a permanent grant, or with the expectation of being refunded from the proceeds.
Availability of funding support is dependent on the sum in the account at the time of application. Most of the existing funds were generated by significant village events staged a few years ago, and the sum available is diminishing due to fewer large-scale fund-raisers being run more recently. Ideally, a contingency figure of £2500 is always retained.
